About the Job
About the Role:
Cohen Eye Institute is seeking a Spanish-speaking Ophthalmic Scribe to support our ophthalmologists with clinical documentation, patient chart preparation, and day-to-day clinical workflow.

The Ophthalmic Scribe will work alongside physicians during patient examinations, accurately documenting medical information in the electronic medical record (EMR). This position is a good fit for someone with strong computer skills, attention to detail, and an interest in ophthalmology.

Fluent Spanish and English communication skills are required. Entry-level candidates with strong computer and communication skills are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:
  • Accompany ophthalmologists during patient examinations and document clinical information in real time.
  • Record patient histories, chief complaints, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions in the EMR.
  • Enter ophthalmic test results, imaging findings, and procedure documentation.
  • Prepare patient charts before appointments by reviewing previous medical records and diagnostic information.
  • Assist with medication, laboratory, imaging, and referral orders as directed by the physician.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
  • Follow HIPAA requirements and maintain the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Communicate with Spanish-speaking and English-speaking patients as needed.
  • Work with physicians and clinical staff to support efficient patient flow.
  • Assist with documentation and other clinical administrative tasks as needed.
  • Learn and apply ophthalmic terminology, procedures, and EMR workflows.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent typing and computer skills.
  • Comfortable using electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy clinical environment.
  • Professional approach to handling confidential patient information.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team.
  • Previous experience as a medical scribe, ophthalmic scribe, ophthalmic technician, or healthcare professional is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic terminology and eye anatomy.
  • Experience working in an ophthalmology or other medical practice.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic testing, including OCT, visual fields, or fundus photography.
  • Experience documenting patient encounters in an EMR.

Schedule and Physical Requirements:
  • Full-time position.
  • Work hours are based on clinic operating hours.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15–20 pounds.
